Chakardar Fusion Ensemble

Following on from the highly successful “Chakardar – The London Tabla Ensemble” Chakardar is proud to announce the formation of The Chakardar Fusion Ensemble.

Created and led by the talented and hard working Harkirat Singh Rayatt, the Chakardar Fusion Ensemble has been formed from some of Chakardar’s tabla students who were anxious to create a new blend of music mixing Western and Indian influences.

A chance to perform at the Rhythms of the World festival in Hitchin was the spark that led Harkirat to suggest the formation of such a group and he approached three of his tabla students to join him.

Greg White (guitar) has been playing for 25 years. His first love was blues and rock but since being influenced by the eastern guitar styles of John McLaughlin and his work in the fusion group Shakti he has taken to South Asian music with great enthusiasm and has recently started to play sitar as well as tabla.
Colin Kerr (percussion) has been playing for a relatively short time and started his percussive life on Congas and Bongos but like Greg was heavily influenced by the eastern styles of music and is now a very enthusiastic tabla student.
Dave Murray (percussion) has a wealth of experience in Middle Eastern percussion and rhythm including Doumbek and also plays mandolin, mandola, one or two “special” home made instruments and of course tabla.

These three are joined by Harkirat’s wife Shaminder on vocals and harmonium, his talented son Gurdain on tabla and Tejinder Bharj on vocals and harmonium.
