Since 2003, Chakardar has been holding annual Tabla Summer Schools in the first week of August with some of the most respected and learned teachers from India.

The Chakardar Tabla Summer Schools is 5 days long and situated in Cobham, Surrey in the wonderful Yehudi Menuhin School. The wonderful ambience and countryside charm lends itself to an incredibly calm learning environment alongside other students spanning a variety of ages. Residential accommodation which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, is available. At the Summer School you will engage in a variety of activities that altogether engage with the theoretical and practical aspects of tabla playing, be it the morning tala and rhythm class, one-to-one teaching, group performance planning or evening events such as performance showcases, teacher interviews or media demonstrations.

Pandit Shankar Ghosh

A highly respected master of Tabla from the Farukhabad Gharana, himself a disciple of the great Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh, who was a fantastic tabla player, music composer as well as a vocalist. Pandit Shankar Ghosh is known for maintaining the tradition and thorough qualities of tabla playing while finding new ways of introducing fusion and new concepts to the instrument. Constantly referring to the "new tabla," Panditji has released books on the mathematics of tabla and other such specialities.

As a young player, he is well known for his recording of Raag Darbari Kanada with Ustad Vilayat Khan in 1968 as well as playing on numerous occasions with the great Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and other famous musicians. Nowadays, Panditji takes teaching very seriously, venturing into various towns, delivering workshops, classes and lectures on tabla. He also visits France, Germany and China in order to teach foreign students as well as a new online teaching method which he has released on his new website.

Bickram Ghosh

Son of maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh, Bickramda has developed his own unique character and dimension to the tabla world. Empowered with his father's fantastic knowledge of indian classical music, he is a role model for the current generation of tabla players who wish to not only understand and practice the complexities of the instrument and its subject but also venture intelligently into other forms of music. Bickram Ghosh has played worldwide with many famous musicians.

Prabhu Edouard

Prabhu is a senior student of Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Having travelled to India extensively to study the instrument for over 10 years, he is one of the top tabla players in France as well as Europe. His clean, sweet and melodious hand lends itself perfectly to a variety of accompaniment opportunities. In France, Prabhu raises awareness of the instrument by running his own classes and liasing with various other Indian Classical musicians in the local community. As a performer, Prabhu is highly associated with African music and often participates in a more organic and rhythmic fusion opportunities.

Harkirat Rayatt

Harkirat Rayatt learnt the tabla from his Ustad and father in law, the late Gurmit Singh Virdee. Gurmit Singh Virdee was well known in the Sikh community for raising the profile for tabla accompaniment and performing, as well as kirtan and devotional accompaniment, having studied from the likes of Ustad Bahadur Singh (Punjab Gharana) and Pandit Samta Prasad (Benares Gharana)

Harkirat Rayatt follows in the footsteps of his father in law - through Chakardar, he raises the profile of tabla as a performing instrument as well as a subject, teaching in various locations around London and Essex, performing with the Chakardar Tabla Ensemble and through the arrangement of teaching events such as the Summer School itself. He has performed widely and accompanied renowned artists such as Ustad Amanat Ali and Ustad Fateh Ali khan, Smt. Pragya Banerjee, Smt. Pratushya Chaudhuri, Smt. Nanda Banerjee, Dharambir Singh, Kiranpal Singh, Himadri Bagchi and Ken Zuckerman.
