Tridha

A concept created by Pandit Shankar Ghosh in 2005, Channdayan Tridha (the original name) was developed as a trio performance of tabla players and designed to create an alternative musical dimension to tabla playing in the concept of a group. This group consists of Panditji's students Gurdain Rayatt, Surojato Roy (Calcutta) and Kaushik Konwar (Mumbai)

During a gap year to India in September 2005, Gurdain met both these two gurubhai's and lived with them for most of his stay there. Through group practices, Panditji came up with this concept which was eventually showcased at the prestigious Saptak Festival in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in January 2006.

Key features

  1. 1. No nagma/time keeping
  2. 2. Variety of micro patterns
  3. 3. Variety of composition styles
  4. 4. Multiple tablas tuned at hamonising pitches to provide another level of tuneful enjoyment for the audience
  5. 5. Moving away from traditional layout of a tabla performance toward a more dynamic concept between a number of tabla players

In August 2010, Tridha performed for the first time in 4 years at the Chakardar Tabla Summer School 2010. Despite the long time of having not performed, the members of the group very quickly engaged again with the old material and were able to put on an impressive, explosive performance with their Guruji Pandit Shankar Ghosh present in the front row.

Stay tuned - they could be back for more in the future!
